wireless charging is getting more and more popular lately and few different companies offers us different solutions to help us get rid of dozens different chargers that are hanging around our house or office.
Now days, charging our endless number of portable gadgets is really turning into a problem We keep buying more and more gadgets; each one comes with different charger, different USB port and different shapes and sizes. As there is no standard for chargers, each company simply invents and design its own way of charging its gadget.
Try calculating the number of portable devices you own. Different music players, at least one mobile phone, probably even 2, not counting your other family members. The number of mobile phones in your house can reach 10 or even 12! Now let’s not forget your game consoles, PDA’s, GPS, Laptops and more and more
In any case each one of us owns around 3 to 4 gadgets on average. And they all need to be charged. Well apparently, the solution is already here. It’s called wireless charging and 2 companies are leading the way. wildcharge is the older one, founded back in 2003 and since then changed their name to Pure Energy. They are located in Boulder CO. And use inductive power to wirelessly charge different devices like mobile phones, PDA’s, Laptops, MP3 players and more. Because the WildCharge characteristic metal contact points (e.g. integrated into a cell phone skin) are magnetized, the device is attracted to the Pad’s conductive surface and solidly held in place once it touches down in any configuration with a satisfying clack. WildCharge technology works instantaneously on metal-on-metal contact. The Pad transmits electricity to the adapter element’s exposed contact points, charging the device. It is that simple. Some devices released to the market are already Wildcharge compatible. That means you don’t have to buy any accessories in order to charge them, except for the WildCharge charging pad. powermat started developing their technology in early 2007 and went public in mid 2009. The products are similar to the ones of Wildcharge, with better design and are easier to use. Powemat also offers a portable charging mat.The portable charging pad consists of 3 plates that can be folded into a small case. Weighing less than 0.9 pounds it is extremely compact and easy to use. Powermat also offers 8 different ports that can be connected to the charging pad, and is compatible with more than 300,000,000! Different devices that are currently on the market. The Powermat is retailing for $99.99 and does not include any cases or sleeves.
So, do these companies really solve the problem of endless chords and different chargers? It’s hard to say. Although the idea and technology are great innovations, we can’t forget that the charging pad still needs to be connected to a power outlet… also, having the need of buying different adapters for different devices makes the whole thing a bit useless. Currently this solution will help those who own more than 5 devices, and there are quite many. Also, the gadget lovers cannot give up on such cool solution. We believe that in the future most of the devices on the market will be equipped with a wireless charging solution and will turn these gadgets to a must have in every home and office.
