There was a lot of pre-release publicity about the Olympus XZ-1 Digital Camera that generated a lot of eagerness for its release. The media heralded the XZ-1 as a camera for all levels of users; whether you are an experienced photographer or a newcomer to digital photography, you will find what you are looking for in this compact, high-quality camera. It’s easy to use for beginners, but has features that will excite even the most advanced photographer. We’ll let you know in this report if the XZ-1 is as good as its pre-release press made it out to be.
Not too long ago, taking a picture with the camera did not provide instantaneous results. Our digital technological age now allows us to see what we will get without having to develop film. The Olympus XZ-1 is capable of giving you a heads up as to the quality of your shot before you take the image. Live Guide Control on this camera gives you an LCD preview before you snap the picture. Using this feature will allow you to take only quality shots, instead of a multitude of images that may be of lesser quality.
One of the things that makes the XZ-1 so convenient is its size. You will love the size of the camera because it is hand sized allowing you to take pictures with greater control. Whether you’re going on a picnic, or filming your child’s birthday party, this digital camera can go virtually anywhere. On the other hand, it’s not a mini camera either; it’s not so tiny that you can just put it into your pocket and forget about it. Much larger than a smartphone, this camera will be much easier to handle allowing you to take better pictures. This camera can be worn around your neck because the Olympus XZ-1 is that light and comfortable to wear.
While many people would consider the Olympus XZ-1 virtually perfect considering all of its advanced features, we found a couple of trifling inconveniences that bear pointing out. Olympus didn’t include a grip on the right-hand side of the camera. This oversight can make it difficult for you to hold onto the camera. An easy solution is to buy a separate right-hand grip. There are many excellent ones on the market and one that we liked even had indentations for your fingertips. This will give you a firm grasp on your camera so it doesn’t end up getting dropped. It’s also easy to accidentally press some of the control buttons. This is not a big deal, but you will have to pay attention so you don’t change your mode setting or worse, switch your camera on when you’re not using it and running down the battery. This problem is pretty common with compact electronic equipment. You just have to pay attention to what you are doing.
The Olympus XZ-1 is basically a very well designed digital camera that can easily let you take top quality photos. Most of the features are intuitive, but you may need to spend a little bit of time to be completely comfortable with them. During this period, the Olympus XZ-1 is more than capable of adjusting your settings for you. The XZ-1 is not the cheapest digital camera you can buy, but it’s still a good value overall.
