Regardless of your reasons, I’ll show you how to fix a dishwasher. The first step is to familiarize yourself with the unit. Take a good look at the owners manual. What do they say? Chances are you might be able to fix it yourself, even when the manual says call a technician.

So as soon as you are familiar with the machine you have, and depending on the problem, you will probably have to pull it out from under the counter to get the best access to all parts.

Water and electronics are not a great combination, this can lead to breakdowns.

Most breakdowns you will be able to fix. Before you call a repairman, you might be able to save money. I’ll show you now a simple repair of one of the most common problems.

So here are some dishwasher repair tips:

1) After washing are your dishes still dirty? Don’t worry if this is the case. It is likely to be simple like the shut-off valve being off, which feeds the water coming into the machine. Under the kitchen sink check the water shut-off valve. It is on? Make sure this is so.

So it might be necessary to check the spray arms for clogs. If so unclog them by hand. Since most spray arms are poorly designed food gets clogged in the opening, and you can’t take them apart. Cleaning out the arms with the garden hose putting high pressure water through them is the best way to do it.

Put about 300 ml of vinegar in it instead of detergent and run the machine without dishes inside. Do a full cycle. This should do a great job of cleaning it. So after the dishes have been washed, are they still dirty, is there water left in the bottom of the machine? This might mean that your outlet is clogged: you will have to clean any of the filters at the bottom of the machine. Another thing you can do is check the outlet valve, and hose under the dishwasher.

Not long ago I too followed the directions above, but my dishes still remained dirty. But how? More clogs you could not see. Always look deeper inside! And that’s what I did. Deep inside the machine, I realized that I was able to clean a filter I had not see before. This nasty filter was blocked with sediments. So I cleaned it out and then everything was working fine! If you have water that is hard it will build white hard sediments in the filters openings.
