Selecting live greenery and colored foliage brings a living and ethereal feel to the décor and ambiance of the home. Touches such as this are an inexpensive way to set a festive mood. There are a few additional helpful table setting and decorating touches which can be incorporated into creating a classy holiday get together. The following party suggestions can help set the tone for a wonderful, classy get together as you welcome friends and family into your home.
1. Furnish attendees with cloth napkins instead of paper. There are certainly those who always advocate for the use of cloth napkins and those who feel as if cloth napkins are completely overrated. The truth is though, that cloth napkins do add a bit of sophistication and are considered by party planners to be indicative of a more formal occasion. So despite the laundry care associated with cloth napkins, consider choosing them for an evening holiday party.
2. Avoid the aluminum cans and provide your guests with glasses. While drinking from the can may be just fine at a barbeque or swim party, it is not as accepted when hosting a more formal holiday get together. Providing glasses for your guests is an easy way to add elegance.
3. Consider providing guests with take home centerpieces. Whatever your theme or occasion, it is easy to make gorgeous and thematic centerpieces or place settings. Creating something your guest can take home and continue to enjoy, whether it be a few daisy stems tied together with ribbon, a heart shaped candy holder, or a Santa napkin ring, is sure to be a hit.
4. Take care of lighting needs with soft, warm lighting choices. Harsh lighting can be a detriment when attempting to create a relaxed mood. Choose multiple candle options, lights with dimmer switch options, and lamps with low wattage bulbs as opposed to overhead lights or utilitarian lighting.
5. Choose background music carefully. The right music creates a great feel. Select music that is not too overpowering, but that is festive, fun, and melodious. Resist the temptation to turn it too loud. Music should be used to fill any silence but not prohibit guests from enjoying quiet conversation.
6. Choose to serve food items which are universally appealing and easy to eat. While it may be tempting to get creative, the best party foods are those which are able to be enjoyed with minimal effort or utensils. Bite sized appetizers served on throw away tooth picks or with cocktail napkins make for perfect foods to chew while engaging in conversation. Additionally, foods which are familiar to the majority of guests will be enjoyed while foods with odd smells or unusual appearance may be unwanted or go untried. Creating appealing main courses, appetizers, sweets, and beverages is one of the keys to throwing a great holiday party. Consider making foods and beverages which coordinate with your holiday theme or color choices.
