Modern bathroom suites are often designed with all sorts of contemporary bells and whistles; some essential, others less so. The whirlpool bath could probably best be described as a luxury, a little indulgent treat that you could safely live without. However, as with most luxuries, it is a question of whether you think it is something that you can live without. Let’s take this back a step though and find out exactly what a whirlpool bath actually is. Essentially it is a normal tub; it has the same basic shape and variety of styles available – including corner designs. The one major difference is the subtle jets that are strategically placed around the internal surface of the bath. From these jets water flows at a regulated pace to target every inch of your body. When it comes to choosing a new fitting for your bathroom, the factors in favour of a whirlpool bath are numerous.
The first, and most obvious of these, is the ability to have an oasis of bubbly calm and tranquillity in your very own home. Whilst these kinds of luxuries are often consigned to spas, you can enjoy the benefits day in and day out. These jets of water can also have some health benefits too. If you have lived with constant physical aches and pains then you will be all too aware of how hard it can be to find a solution, at least without resorting to medicinal solutions.
Ideal for temporary relief, although not perhaps for longer term healing, a whirlpool bath can whisk away your stresses and pains in a suspended torrent of flowing around you . This not only applies to those who live with muscular pain, it can also be for any people who enjoy participating in sports and other strenuous activities. The buoyancy provided within a whirlpool bath, created by the jets, allows you to take all the weight off your body and allow it to recover fully in a gorgeous, warm bath. It’s like getting your very own personal rub down, just without anybody else in the room – not unless you want them there of course.
A whirlpool bath is also far more hygienic than its non-jet powered counterparts. Due to the constant circulation, germs aren’t able to fester and develop in the water, as they might in your normal tub. It can become a breeding ground for bacteria, which is clearly far from ideal. With germs decreased, you can bathe safer in the event of having open wounds – or at the very least, wounds that are yet to fully heal – lowering the risk of infection.
Some of the major advantages of whirlpool baths include:
- Increasingly Affordable
- Adjustable Jet Settings
- Adds Buoyancy
- Hygienic
- Relief for Muscular and Joint Problems
In terms of stress relief, there isn’t much that can compare to a whirlpool bath, particularly in bathrooms. The adjustable controls will allow you to set the mood for your soak in the tub. So whether you want a raging torrent or a slow soothing massage, you can find a setting to suit your needs. If ambience is your thing, then you might want to consider a model that includes LED lighting. All will combine to create a sumptuous, relaxing atmosphere for you to enjoy and leave the rest of the world outside the bathroom door.
All this luxury won’t come for free though sadly. That said, Whirlpool baths have come down in price significantly in recent years. Today you can find models anywhere from a few hundred pounds up to over a thousand quid; as with most things, the more you spend the more expansive the onboard features are likely to be. Another consideration, particularly for those with one eye on environmental issues, is the extra energy that is required to power these jets. Obviously it is more than you would use with standard baths, but most are now reducing the electricity required to power them to ensure that there is no wastage. This sets running costs a little higher than your usual bath, so you have to decide if the extra luxury is worth the additional investment.
If you love your bathroom and enjoy nothing than a good bath either to start your day or to unwind afterwards, then you really should consider investing in a whirlpool bath. Unfortunately there is no way to recreate that same soothing ambience and unbridled relaxation in a conventional bath; it is truly an experience unique to the whirlpool. If you want it to be extra special, try adding bubble bath into the equation. You’ll be in a foamy wonderland, which won’t disappear in a couple of minutes like your usual bubble bath. Lovely.
